Ballantine’s x Shawna X limited edition is the way to celebrate the community spirit. Power of art and community are the key themes in Shawna X artwork, where a group of people holds each other in affirmation and unity, engaged in either dance circle.
Shawna X is an independent artist based in New York, who enjoys projects about local community and cultural identity.
she designed the Nike store and the volleyball court for Adidas, drew illustrations for the San Francisco Opera and world’s leading publications, like The New York Times and The New Yorker.
DTF Magazine and Ballantine’s launch a special project, which tells how street art changes whole neighborhoods, breathing new life into them and forms communities.
We talk to Shawna X about the collaboration with Ballantine’s, discussed why the artist’s style is not about art, what she considers art and how this relates to the interpretation of the viewer, as well as about her interest in the theme of vulnerability.
Besides the interview with Shawna X, we found and looked at some of the brightest cases from different cities around the world: Cuba, Beijing, Baltimore, Miami, Budapest and Los Angeles.
Special project was also promoted on social networks, such as Instagram, Telegram, Facebook.
Fitting the idea of an urban community, we created a unique gift-pack for influencers with a 3D-printed model of a building at Khreshchatyk street, Kyiv, with Shawna X mural on the side.
the model of a house was constructed like a case for ballantine`s bottle which we put inside. the foundation of the building was wooden, with a special place for a bottle, and a plastic one formed the facade. one of the building`s walls was a “door” to get out the bottle.
there was a shawna x mural on the wall and so we added a pack of acrylic markers to create your own mural on the other side of the buildings.
We chose 20 influencers – people from creative industries – stylists, DJs, photographers, models, musicians, directors, designers and offered to create their own murals.
