Ballantine’s x Joshua Vides collaboration

Joshua Vides limited edition

2020 limited edition design was made by Joshua Vides who brought his signature monochromatic style to iconic Ballantine’s bottle. He also created a limited edition briefcase and tumbler set in a nod to Ballantine’s prohibition era past.

Before showing his first drawings, Joshua Vides worked on the CLSC brand that was known mainly in the US streetwear community.
Everything changed in 2018 when Joshua posted a sketch of Nike Air Force 1 sneakers on Instagram. The sketch went viral, while Vides ornamented pretty much everything since then — from an Xbox gamepad to street cones and a toilet. Moreover, he sketched Converse sneakers and Fendi bags.

Special project

On the collaboration launch day, DTF Magazine had a call with Joshua and learned how Ballantine’s project was designed, why the artist abandoned making clothes, what the secret of his style is, and whether it’s possible to create something original in today’s world.

This interview was the first part of the special project that presented the collaboration in public.

The second part was dedicated to the phenomenon of the object art appeared in XX century.

Together with an art expert Kate Taylor we discovered how Duchamp’s ‘Fountain’, Andy Warhol’s ‘Campbell's Soup Cans’, banana with a duct tape or life-jackets became art objects due to ideas put by artists, the same as the bottle of whisky due to Joshua Vides.

The content was promoted through social media including Facebook, Instagram and Telegram.

Gift-packs

We created two types of gift-packs: small ones for individual influencers and the big boxes for teams.

1

The small one was designed as a white box with a window, so Ballantine’s x Joshua Vides bottle inside it looked like an art object behind the safety glass.

There was also a black marker affixed to the back side of the box with the project description, so people could try to make their own art inspired by Vides monochromatic style.

2

The big pack included real box for post deliveries and was full of everyday objects that became art and were mentioned in the special project.

So, there were a life-jacket inspired by Ai Weiwei with a Ballantine’s patch, a Campbell soup can inspired by Andy Warhol, a kilo of banana with a branded tape inspired by Maurizio Cattelan. And of course the final object — Ballantine’s x Joshua Vides bottle.

Both gift-packs had a QR-code with a link to an interview (small box) or an object art feature (big box).

More than 30 influencers got exclusive gift-packs with limited-edited Ballantine's bottles.
